Reduced customs inquiry response times in Bushehr

Bushehr Cuts Customs Inquiry Response Time to About One Day

The Director General of Standards in Bushehr Province has reported a significant reduction in the average response time for customs-related inquiries. According to statements reported by Tasnim News Agency on October 26, 2026, the average declined from approximately 14 days in the Iranian month of Farvardin to 1.12 days in Mehr 1405.

Shorter Response Times for Customs Inquiries

Iman Movafegh Dehdashti, Director General of Standards in Bushehr Province, stated that response times had fallen to seven days in Khordad and to approximately one day in Mehr. According to his remarks, Bushehr ranked first nationally under the trade-facilitation indicator cited by the provincial standards authority.

Faster responses to standards-related inquiries may help improve trade processes. However, the reported figure does not mean that all shipments can complete customs clearance in one day: clearance may still depend on other permits and inspections.

Moving Toward Risk-Based Supervision

The provincial official also outlined a planned change in goods-quality supervision. Under the described approach, goods would be grouped into four risk categories: low, medium, high and very high.

The aim is to focus supervisory resources on higher-risk goods while streamlining processes for other categories. Implementation was described as planned for the Iranian year 1406, so it should not be presented as a rule already applied to every shipment.

Importance of Inspection and Laboratory Testing

Alongside faster administrative responses, accurate inspection, sampling and laboratory testing remain important. Assessment methods should reflect the nature of the goods, potential risks and applicable legal requirements.

Independent inspection bodies and competent laboratories can help assess technical and quality characteristics and document findings within their authorized and agreed scopes. An inspection or test report does not, by itself, replace the legal authority's customs-clearance decision.
